Welcome to SAAMBA

Welcome to the largest, oldest and most dynamic MBA association in Poland!

Below you will find the answers to questions frequently asked about SAAMBA and Warsaw University and Technology Business School.

What exactly are MBA studies?

An MBA programme is a post-graduate form of managerial education, designed primarily for individuals with business experience and interested in long-term planning of their careers.

Since when has it been possible to enroll in the MBA programmes at WUTBS?

Warsaw University of Technology Business School (est. 1991) runs one of the first and oldest MBA programmes in Poland. It started in 1992 as a joint programme of the most renowned European business schools: London Business School (LBS), Paris HEC School of Management (HEC) and Norwegian School of Economics and Administration (NHH). Its students and graduates are mainly managers between 25 and 40 years of age. They possess varied professional experience and are graduates of a wide spectrum of faculties, including technical, economic, human-sciences, medical and other schools of higher education.

How many graduates has WUTBS had so far?

By 2010, the WUTBS MBA studies had been completed by over 1000 graduates. At the present moment, about 180 students are participating in the school's five programmes.

When, why and in what circumstances was SAAMBA founded?

SAAMBA was established in 1993 by the first generation of WUTBS graduates. Its founding members wanted to create an organisation that would integrate the school's environment, promote its highly prestigious image and represent its graduates in a variety of business circles. It was indeed Poland's first association of MBAs and is currently the largest society of this kind, as practically every student and graduate of WUTBS is now its member.

Who has run the Association so far? What tasks and goals have been pursued?

Since its inception, SAAMBA has seen 6 Presidents of the Board. The first three were: Robert Kutyna, Krzysztof Marek Kosycarz and Usamah Afifi. In 2001, Monika Popiołek was elected SAAMBA's fourth President and held this position for 3 subsequent terms, creating a wholly separate new chapter in the Association's history. In 2007, Marek Kapeliński took over and held this position until 2009. During the period 2001-2009, SAAMBA focused on networking facilitation, organizing student exchanges with foreign partners, as well as holding annual Career Fairs and initiating co-operation with other similar organizations, such as the MBA Minnesota Alumni at the Warsaw School of Economics. In addition, SAAMBA streamlined its system of membership fees, modernized its internal procedures and the infrastructure. In addition, a number of social events, Christmas and carnival parties were organized. SAAMBA was also involved in business consulting services - for example, the Association developed a full business plan for building a cross-country gas pipeline.

In November 2009 a new President was elected: Karol Hołdyński invested his energies in the development of business networking, which resulted also in the inclusion of current WUTBS students (graduates-to-be) in SAAMBA's structures. This move gave the school's social environment a new dynamic: the idea of active mutual support by both the students and graduates was received with enthusiasm and led to organizing a large number of networking events.

Who heads the organization now and what are its current goals and tasks?

The year 2011 turned out to be another breakthrough for SAAMBA. Małgorzata Drzewiecka, a manager at Accenture at the time, with help of a brand new Board, formed by people actively involved in the school's life and holding responsible positions in multi-national corporations, created a new fresh vision and strategy for the Association. SAAMBA is now not only an advanced business networking platform, but also a center for business education and continuous development for managers. Unique workshops and seminars conducted by top-class practitioners, available free of charge to all SAAMBA members, give the school's graduates real support even many years after obtaining the MBA diploma.

In what ways does SAAMBA's Board facilitate networking?

The Board regularly informs the Association's members about all social events large and small, official and informal, via SAAMBA's main website, mailing lists, social networking websites and a periodic newsletter. Online networking systems (currently undergoing a major re-vamp), help students and graduates contact each other, present and update personal profiles, enjoy the galleries and participate in thematic forums. Finally, SAAMBA members are invited to attend all WUTBS social events and to take advantage of the school's talent- and job-search facilities, designed "by WUTBS graduates for WUTBS graduates".

How does SAAMBA help its graduates navigate the job market?

A number of WUTBS alumni regularly submit exclusive job offers to the school, with the aim of hiring new WUTBS graduates for their companies. In addition, the Association co-operates directly with HR departments of international corporations in the field of recruitment, internship and training.

How does the Association integrate current and former WUTBS students?

On 16 February 2002, SAAMBA's Board introduced significant changes to its Articles of Constitution, which allowed non-graduates to join the Association. As a result, current WUTBS students can become members of SAAMBA and enjoy all the privileges associated with the membership, including - but not limited to - every educational and social project.

What kinds of social events does SAAMBA organize?

The Association invites its members regularly to Business Mixers, organizes the Christmas Eve Party and the Carnival Party as well as occassional integration trips and out-of-town networking events.

What is SAAMBA's mission?

We build common identity and a prestigious public image of WUTBS graduates while creating an environment conducive to mutual support. We want every SAAMBA member to be well-prepared for business challenges and we seek to refute the popular wisdom claiming that "one can only count on oneself". We promote giving back to society through charity and education. We believe that every MBA graduate is on a mission to contribute to everyone's better future.
